“BlocPower” Transforma os Edifícios em Teslas

O co-fundador e CEO da BlocPower Donnel Baird partilha com a audiência a principal missão da BlocPower.

Foi no palco da Growth Summit que o orador Donnel Baird apresentou o seu projeto de inovação tecnológica que consiste em eletrificar todo o tipo de empreendimentos, desde escolas, igrejas, mesquitas, etc., numa clara tentativa para “reduzir em 30% as emissões de gases de efeito de estufa dos Estados Unidos”. O equipamento antigo é substituído por materiais renováveis, que tornam o tipo de edificação “mais moderno, verde, sustentável e valorizado”.

Numa entrevista exclusiva com Donnel Baird, foi possível compreender melhor a transição de electrificação do edifício para alcançar soluções climáticas para todos, especialmente para aqueles que mais necessitam.

Para além do desejo geral de reduzir a emissão gases com efeito de estufa, o orador da Web Summit explica-nos qual a relação do projeto com os objetivos de desenvolvimento sustentável (ODS’s) na medida em que “existe uma preocupação em garantir a melhoria da saúde pública”. Neste seguimento, Donnel acrescenta também o factor de acolhimento e formação que tem sido providenciado às populações mais vulneráveis e/ou indígenas, no que diz respeito ao mercado de trabalho. Quando questionado acerca do número de apartamentos que já tinha sofrido este tipo de intervenção, a resposta foi a de um total de 1200 apartamentos intervencionados, com expectativas futuras de um aumento dos números num futuro próximo.

Atualmente, a BlocPower conta com várias parcerias em mais de 10 estados, como governos e serviços, nas quais se incluem a Apple e a Google, proprietários de edifícios e membros de comunidades, onde a grande questão consiste em “reunir grandes companhias de tecnologia, Wall Street e mesmo a própria Casa Branca”. Segundo Donnel, esta ‘startup’ “já impactou cerca de 20 a 30 mil famílias, não pela quantidade de dinheiro que as mesmas conseguiram poupar, mas também ao conseguir proporcionar um estilo de vida mais saudável e seguro para as crianças”.

Turning buildings into Teslas: building community wealth in underserved communities

“In the same way that a Tesla engine removes fossil fuel from a vehicle, we find ourselves using the same process to replace fossil fuel-based equipment in buildings” explains Donnel Baird, CEO and co-founder of BlocPower. This renewable energy startup has its headquarters in Brooklyn, New York.

It was on the stage of the Growth Summit that Donnel Baird presented his technological innovation project. It consists of electrifying all types of enterprises, from schools, churches, mosques, etc. This attempts to “reduce by 30% emissions from greenhouse gases from the United States”. The old equipment is replaced by renewable materials, which make the type of building “more modern, green, sustainable and valued”.

In addition to the general desire to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Baird explains to us the project’s relationship with the Sustainable Development Goals as “there is a concern to ensure the improvement of public health”. The CEO of BlocPower adds that they are also training the most vulnerable people and indigenous populations on the labour market, so they cannot get scammed.

In an exclusive interview with Donnel Baird, it was possible to better understand the building electrification transition to achieve climate solutions for everyone, especially those who need it most.

When asked about the number of apartments that had already undergone their intervention, the answer was of a total of 1200 apartments. There are expectations of an increase in this number in the near future. Currently, BlocPower has several partnerships in more than 10 states of the United States of America, from local governments to private services, of which Apple and Google are part. Building owners and community members are also engaged, to achieve the goal of “bringing together big technology companies, Wall Street and even the White House itself.”

According to Donnel, this startup “has already impacted about 20 to 30 thousand families, not only because of the amount of money they managed to save but also by managing to provide a healthier and safer lifestyle for children.”.
