Yesterday a group of Young Reporters went to the Hotel Baia to interview Nuno Vinagre, who is the manager of a well known company Cascais Ambiente, to talk about environmental problems in Cascais and possible solutions.
Cascais Ambiente is responsible for coastlines, street cleaning, waste collection, environmental education and other services related to litter.
His company has 578 people working everyday cleaning streets and beaches. As Nuno Vinagre quoted “We have a lot of staff working for us everyday on the streets, and even though it seems hard to believe, we collect 400 tons of litter everyday from the streets of Cascais”.
Cascais Ambiente is in a partnership with a company called TratoLixo whitch is responsible for modern dumpsters in Portugal. This company exists for 25 years and has been in partnership with Cascais Ambiente since then. Their modern dumpsters use plastic layers to prevent leaks from the litter to infect the ground water and it uses a filter so that gases don’t go into the atmosphere.
From Nuno Vinagre point of view, his company had a huge evolution since 40 years ago. When his company first started they barely had any employees working on the field, and they used to collect the litter from the streets with a carriage pulled by a horse, and as he quoted “We evolved so much during this years that not even I could believe how big we became in our country”.
