The Gescruzeiros is a society that was created from the synergies between the companies of Gestalqueva and Nautialqueva. These two companies work together to use everything that the Alqueva Lake has to offer.
The Gesalqueva has the mission to promote activities that will allow the devolvement of the geographic space of Alqueva mainly by creating new areas to start business.
The Nautialqueva is the exclusive promoter of Amieira Marina that is the first nautical project started by the POAAP organization that uses all the nautical services such as rent, maintenance, parking lots for the ships, restaurant with a bar, balconies, convenience stores, a store for some nautical sports, they also have a great variety of boat-houses that can be rent and used on the lake.
Gescruzeiros is the only company with the capacity to organize trips on the Great Lake of Albufeira de Alqueva with boats that can carry from 25 to 120 passengers. The Amieira Marina is located near the town of Amieira that is found in the district of Portel in Alentejo.
This project is focused on tourism that started to operate in 2004 but the activities only started in the 1st of June of 2006. People from all around the world such as French, Spanish, Russian, Belgian, German, Italian or Portuguese people have already used these activities in the past months. Current registrations at the marina indicate that more Portuguese people prefer to visit for shorter stays whereas foreigners prefer longer stays.
Interesting to note is that through various specific environmental measures the marina enjoys eco-labels of the highest quality such as the international blue flag. For this reason sustainability is high on the marina’s agenda. As a marina official commented, “we have to sell the environment so we need to take care of it.”
This concept is new in Portugal that shows a positive perspective which has emerged from the building of the Alqueva Dam, the biggest “water mirror” of Europe with an area of approximately 250km and a perimeter of 1160km.
So let us enjoy the beauty of the Great Lake and all the towns near the shore that are found in the middle of the Alentejo landscape.
