Healing fruit of the Mediterranean from the Tree of Life
Olive trees can live for thousands of years. They are a good example of sustainability. Turkey and Portugal are producers of olives and olive oil. “What are the environmental characteristics favorable to olive growth? Which natural factors affect their production? Is the increase in olive oil production incompatible with environmental sustainability?”. The United Nations define sustainable development as “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”. According to UNESCO, education is a prerequisite for achieving sustainable development and an essential tool for informed decision-making and democracy. Approaching one of the objectives for sustainable development – ensuring that society has relevant information and awareness for sustainable development and lifestyles in harmony with nature by 2030 – we have surveyed the situation of olive growth in Portugal and Turkey.

O projeto «Recursos naturais do futuro: habitar é rentabilizar, minimizando a sua exploração» visa levar o leitor a fazer uma reflexão acerca do impacte ambiental que a intensificação da construção habitacional tem vindo a provocar na cidade do Porto. A realização de uma pesquisa teórica sobre impacte ambiental/construções sustentáveis conduziu o grupo ao seguinte problema: “Será a construção sustentável uma solução adequada para minimizar o impacte ambiental que o excesso de construções habitacionais provoca na cidade do Porto?
The project «Future natural resources: to inhabit is to monetize, minimizing their exploitation» intends to make the reader reflect about the environmental impact which has been intensified by housing construction in Porto. Realizing a theoretic research about environmental impact and sustainable constructions led the group to the following question: “Is sustainable construction a proper solution to minimize the environmental impact that housing construction in Porto is causing?
Virgílio Silva: “Na natureza não há régua nem esquadro”
A reflorestação continua a ser o principal objetivo da Associação dos Amigos do Parque Ecológico do Funchal. Segundo Virgílio Silva, Vice-Presidente da associação, faia-das-ilhas, cedro-da-madeira e loureiro foram algumas das espécies plantadas em março, no Campo de Educação Ambiental do Cabeço da Lenha. A atividade envolveu cerca de 30 voluntários.

Comemoração do Dia da Árvore e da Floresta, uma parceria entre o programa Eco-Escolas do AEPAS e a Junta de Freguesia de Casal de Cambra. Nas quatro escolas do Agrupamento de escolas Professor Agostinho da Silva foram plantadas árvores autóctones, como um gesto simbólico que visa alertar toda a comunidade para a importância da preservação das florestas portuguesas.
